Hilliard City Schools Changes School Calendar

Dec 13, 2011

Creates a Better Solution for Family Traditions and Childcare

The Hilliard City School District announced a change to the school calendar today to close on Monday, January 2, 2012. Students will return to school on Tuesday, January 3, 2012.  The school year will also be extended by one day in order to meet state standards and will end on Monday, June 4, 2012. This move will allow students and staff members to observe this federal holiday at home much like other area schools and businesses.

“We have received a lot of feedback related to January 2,” said Assistant Superintendent Leslie McNaughton. “Parents wanted students at home with family in observance of the federal holiday and many families were struggling to find adequate child care since many area businesses are closed that day. We wanted to listen to our constituents and find a better solution if possible.” Read More

Choir Students Learn Music through Skype

Nov 30, 2011

The Weaver Middle School 8th Grade Women’s Choir had the unique opportunity to learn from Ariella Forstein, a world music expert from Los Angeles, California, this past Wednesday.  At 12:00pm, students met and worked with Ariella on a Hebrew piece, Al Shlosha D’Varim, which they have been learning in class.  Through this interactive experience, students were able to see and hear Ariella as she taught the text and the style of the music.  David Banyots, the technology teacher at Weaver Middle School set up the Skype call and ensured that the call came through clearly as Ariella, Jeannette Muzzalupo, Weaver Middle School Choir Director, and Kristin Long, Weaver Middle School Assistant Choir Director worked with the students on the musical selection.  The students were engaged in this interactive lesson for just over twenty minutes.  The song, AlShlosha D’Varim, will be presented at the Weaver Middle School choir concert on Wednesday, December 7th, at 7:30pm.  To learn more about Ariella Forstein and her music experience, you can visit her webpage at ariellaapproach.com.

Excellent News

Aug 25, 2011

I have some exciting news to share with you regarding not only our school, but the entire Hilliard City School District.  For the fourth consecutive year, Hilliard City Schools earned the state’s top rating of “Excellent with Distinction” on the 2010-11 Ohio Department of Education’s (ODE) Local Report Card (LRC).  Only 15 school districts in Ohio have earned this same achievement including only four districts in Central Ohio.  Of those four districts, Hilliard Schools has the lowest cost per pupil.
